Since 2008, FOFIFA, University of Antananarivo and UMR DIADE reinforced their partnership with   through research programs on endemic coffees from Madagascar under the supervision of Perla Hamon (IRD, UMR DIADE) and Jean-Jacques Rakotomalala (FOFIFA). Therefore, this partnership permitted two PhD (Mrs Razafinarivo and Miss Andrianasolo, this last one in partnership with UMR AMAP) and a tens of master 2 students.

The development of IRD regional priority programs of which the RPP PAREGO (“patrimoine, Ressource et Gouvernance”) permitted through a first operation (Kianjavato-Caf) in partnership with FOFIFA and Ecole Normale Superieure (University of Antananarivo) to elaborate a bigger project on the preservation and eco-valorisation of Malagasy coffee biodiversity. This project includes two parts inter-connected. One is devoted to the preservation per se of the coffees collection maintained at the Kianjavato research station and includes the cleaning of the plots, the rejuvenation and the duplication of a core part of the collection. The other is devoted to the eco-valorisation of the Kianjavato station through the development of a coffee museum and aims to contribute to the sustainable development of local human populations.

With the objective to obtain funds for this two sub-projects, a brochure titled “Endemic Coffees from Madagascar Preservation and Eco-valorisation at Kianjavato research station” was made by UMR DIADE in full agreement with FOFIFA.
