A valuation of Rodrigues' agro-products

A support for the establishment of formal quality procedures.

Several Rodrigues' agro-products have an excellent reputation in the Indian Ocean and have a high typicality and original quality attributes associating sensory quality, local know-how and commercial recognition. However, they remain undervalued and inadequately protected against fraud and impersonation of their names.

Create the conditions for the emergence of formal quality procedures, boost the marketing of agro-products, recognize the origin and the typicality of products, strengthen operators' capacities, building a shared database on Rodrigues' products and channels. Here are the axes on which QualiREG network mobilized the powers of Reunion Island together with the Rodrigues Regional Assembly.

CIRAD and its partners (PASSION PRODUIT, FARE-IRQUA, CAP-R) conducted between August 2014 and June 2015 a series of training actions and applied research to support the implementation of quality initiatives in four priority sectors: honey, silt, pepper and coffee. It is funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) and has, until December 2015, support of a precious young agricultural engineer with International France Volunteers. Eleven experts from Reunion Island took action on this program.
