Different paths for future cocoa

A higher cocoa production for a better valuation.

According to studies conducted by QualiREG we have seen that it is possible for rural families to produce higher cocoa, without investing in medium capacity units while ensuring complete durations of fermentation products.

To encourage this fermentation practice from 5 to 6 days, it is important to set up a purchase products system link to the quality. Without this system, producers and collectors won't find any interest in changing their practices and to improve the product if they can not perceive a better valuation.

The World Bank was approached to support this dynamic. These results have also guided the implementation in 2014-2015 of two studies, one on the fermentation of cocoa in small volumes to ensure the quality of fermentation and allow rural families who have small orchards to obtain products quality for a better valuation. The other on the identification of individuals cocoa quantitatively and qualitatively high performance with the aim of mass multiplication and dissemination in peasantry.

This work supervised by UMR Qualisud foreshadow not only interesting results for the Malagasy farmers but also for farmers in Reunion Island who are engage in the cultivation of criollo cocoa !
